On the 19th of October, 2023, we celebrate not only the release of the book “Artist’s View of Ukraine” by Carl Hakan Kallaker but also the enduring spirit of a nation amidst the ongoing war. The event was a resounding success, bringing together over 150 attendees from Sweden and various other countries, all united by a shared appreciation for the artistic journey that you can find in this book.

The event’s international turnout was a testament to the power of art to bridge cultures and transcend boundaries. Attendees from Sweden and around the world gathered to explore the Ukraine’s artistic heritage, curated by Carl Hakan Kallaker.

The highlight of the night was, of course, the release of the book “Artist’s View of Ukraine.” This book, authored by Carl Hakan Kallaker, is a unique exploration of Ukraine, capturing the essence of the country through a series of evocative chapters.

Chapter 1: Social Realism in Art – The book embarks on a journey through the art of social realism, chronicling Carl Hakan Kallaker’s fascination with these captivating pieces acquired during extensive travels to Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic states.

Chapter 5: Ukrainian Victory – The question of when victory will come for Ukraine and what that victory will entail is explored, leaving readers pondering the nation’s future.

Chapter 6: Ukrainian Reconstruction – This chapter highlights the substantial reconstruction efforts for the country, a monumental task following the devastation of war.

A Message from the Author

As Carl Hakan Kallaker states on the back cover, “We never have to forget the tragedy in Ukraine, the country and its people.” The war is not just about Ukraine; it’s a battle for the independence of the free world, and artist contribution is through his paintings, which depict Ukraine’s journey from peace to war, with the hope of victory and the monumental task of reconstruction.

A Glimpse into the Book

The book contains 42 paintings, created over approximately 18 months by Carl Hakan Kallaker, employing various techniques such as acrylic, oil, collage, and digital methods. These paintings offer a unique perspective on Ukraine, capturing the country’s earlier days of peace, the impact of war, the hope for victory, and the challenges of reconstruction.
